The State Capitol was dedicated in January 1, 1879 after 6 years of construction.  It stands 267' tall and is over 420' long.  It houses the Legislature, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the state.  In 1992 a three year restoration project was completed that restored the building to it original splendor while making accommodations for the facilities growing technological needs.

The Task: Install an update to the Michigan Senates sound system designed by Simoni Systems of Bay City Michigan.  The new system will provide a digital processing path and new preamp stages for all inputs.  The existing control surface will be modified to control the new system while maintaining it's current look and feel.

The Solution: A network of three BSS Soundwebs were installed to provide the matrix mixes and processing needed for the system.  All new Microphone preamps by Sound Devices were installed in each of the 13 Rostrums on the senate floor. New Crown amplifiers were used to power the existing speakers and Lectrosonics amplifiers were used to power speakers at the individual press boxes.  The installation was a challenge do to the removal of the original system that consisted of a multi channel card cage system that distributed the audio and provided for remote VCA control.  The installation took 2 weeks and went off with out a hitch due to  thorough planning by Simoni Systems and the expertise of the crew from Advanced Lighting & Sound.
