Flamingo Road Church is an extremely contemporary church focused on reaching the unchurched in southeast Florida. Over the years they have grown from a weekly attendance of 300 to over 2200 people today. Almost 60% of the people they reach are unchurched before they come to Flamingo Road. Flamingo Road Church continues their vision with a dedicated team of Pastors and lay ministers. The Church is a growing ministry with over thirteen missions and grand missions started over the last 15 years. They continue to work towards their goals of over 10,000 people in worship by the year 2010

The Task: Flamingo Road Church was looking for a contractor to provide a complete production lighting system for their new Sanctuary. The system design was intended to meet the dynamic production style of a contemporary worship service. As part of the design a distributed control system and network backbone were to be part of the base system.
The Solution: Advanced Lighting & Sound proposed an ETC lighting system that met the projects specification as prepared by Sound Technology Consultants. A variety of lighting positions were to be located throughout the main worship space. Mid way through the project design changes called for the addition of catwalks for the main lighting positions located over the audience area. The catwalk addition allowed for easier access to the light fixtures for adjustments and aiming. Another element of the system included the infrastructure to support a distributed Cat5 network to all the lighting locations. Additionally a different DMX distribution system was included for effects and moving light elements. An assortment of ETC lighting fixtures were included ranging from Source 4 pars to Source 4 ellipsoidals of various degrees. The church already had an assortment of Wybron color scrollers and a handful of Martin intelligent lights that were also integrated into the design. A hybrid control system was designed to allow the church freedom and flexibility in programming. The church was already familiar with the Martin 3032 control system so the decision was made to upgrade to the current Martin product Light Jockey. A traditional theatrical board, an ETC express 48/96 was included to control the rack of ETC dimmers and through DMX control many features of the Martin Light Jockey. The project spanned over a year with onsite visits designed to coordinate between the electrical contractor, owner and Advanced Lighting and Sound. The main install took a week to complete by the three man crew from Advanced. "The only thing we would have changed if we could was to complete the project in January instead of July" said Chris Auger one of Advanceds' install technicians.
